Deanna Hastings, RN – At-Large Position

Renee Labrie-Shanks – Provider Position
I began my work in the field of aging in 2000 as Administrative Assistant at Missoula Aging Services. Six months later I became the Senior Nutrition Program Specialist, charged with educating seniors on nutrition services, providing congregate meals to various sites, as well as managing the Senior Diner Program.
In 2003 I became an Information & Assistance Specialist, State Health Insurance Assistance Program Counselor and Certified Local Ombudsman. Providing comprehensive consulting on resources to clients, advocating for residents of long term care facilities and counseling for the SHIP program afforded me the opportunity to see first hand the needs and concerns of Montana’s aging population. Within this time frame I also developed relationships with various personnel in the field of aging, such as the State Senior & Long Term Care staff, among others.
In 2005 I became Lead I&A/Ombudsman at Missoula Aging Services, overseeing all program activities and training and supervising I&A/Ombudsman staff. The following year I took the promotion to SMP/I&A Program Manager with the additional duties of running the statewide Montana SMP program. Montana SMP empowers seniors to prevent healthcare waste, fraud and abuse. We contract with partners across the state to reach the population locally and educate at various venues. One such venue is the upcoming MGS Conference at which myself and Sharon Richetti from the State Auditors Office will have the opportunity to speak at. As the Program Manager for the statewide Montana SMP program, understanding the needs and concerns of the population we serve, and the organizations we work with statewide, are integral to the job I do. Additionally, supervising as well as providing direct service myself, the local Information & Assistance, SHIP and Ombudsman programs requires me to stay abreast of the best practices, not just in this state, but across the nation.

Lenore Taliaferro - Over 55 Position
I have lived in Helena since 1980. I am married to Dale Taliaferro. I have approximately 40 years experience in human service programs. My experience has ranged from infants to elderly and just about everything in between. I have been employed as an administrator, social worker, Montana State Ombudsman and Area IV Ombudsman. Currently I get appointed by the Court to investigate families when there is a petition guardianship/conservatorship mostly for elderly. I am mostly retired, but serve as a consultant on aging issues when needed.
I have a Master's degree in Public Administration from the University of Kansas with a focus on social work and State administration. I have been a member of MGS since the very beginning and have served on the board many times. I was President Elect, President and Past president. I was also awarded the honor of Outstanding Member of MGS. I would like to serve on the Board again in the Over 55 category.
MGS is the best organization of which I have been a member. There are great opportunities to keep abreast in the field of aging; to share experiences with other members of MGS and to make, renew, and rekindle friendships.
